Bayahibe stands out for having several of these fountains in different parts of the town, creating scenic natural pools that complete the magnificent panorama of its bay. About two kilometers towards the mountain, other springs are concentrated in the caves of the Padre Nuestro area, which has been included in the territory of the Parque Nacional del Este because it is the only water deposit for the local community and tourist structures. Fountains are also found in other areas of the Park, which allowed the development of different towns in pre-Columbian times, today reduced to archaeological remains.

For centuries, the springs of Bayahibe have been the social center of the communities that have succeeded here; Even today fragments of archaeological pieces of ceramics, stone and shell are easily found in its surroundings.
In pre-Columbian culture they were sacred sites, called jagüeyes, and the place name Bayahibe itself, chosen by the Tainos, was probably related to water, according to scientists (Adolfo López Belando).
